SPOILER WARNING
just finished brick. i don't hate it. i don't really know how to put my words into detail because i tend to keep my opinions brief and short. but i'll try my best.
pros: - really like the concept of being trapped in a apartment room by something alien
- really like the subtleties of what happened that caused the containment
-in the beginning of the movie, it shows that there's like a huge puff of black smoke, and it's later revealed that an explosion (or a fire?) happened, which is later explained in the movie that that was the company of where they invented the brick wall security system thing.
- i rly like the two protagonists, tim and liv, and i really feel for them tbh.
- liv wanted to travel with tim and tim wanted to stay for his job which sucks because he promised her that he'd leave with her many times
- fun fact: tim's actor also played as the locksmith in army of the dead.
- and i rlly like that they put their professional skills to use:
- liv being an architect and tim being a game dev and also tech savy.
- liv, knowing the history of the apartment, knows that there's a bunker downstairs
- tim, knowing his way around with computers, gets the security system that controls the brick wall
- also, something that i did not know and really like:
- when tim finally got the security system app thing to unlock the brick, opening a portal of some sort, ana tries dipping her toes in first (well hand but yea) but then gets caught by something behind the wall, leaving us to believe that there's actually something behind as the brick begins to solidify. i thought there was actually a threat behind the wall, but that one's actually a red herring which i thought was clever.
cons:
- despite knowing liv and tim, i rly wish we could get to know more of the other people that they encountered while digging downstairs
- there was ana and marvin, a couple like liv and tim (except less rocky), who rented a room via Airbnb and- idk if it's just me, but idk their past. i know ana, who said that she was dead for 2 minutes after a bike accident. but idk anything about marvin and how they met. all i know is they wanted to get married, and i felt so bad when ana died and marvin khs after. i was legit rooting for those two.
extras:
- as for other characters, mr. Oswalt and lea. i know that mr. Oswalt was a vet(i think so? idk) and was taken care of by her granddaughter, lea. idk much about mr. Oswalt but for lea, i know that her mother passed away, and that she had a fight with her girlfriend, which liv relates to because that's the situation both her and tim were in.
- and then there's yuri. imma be real with you, i thought he was a chill dude. like a nonchalant, somewhat optimistic, kinda guy. boy was i wrong.
- the one part that made me feel off about yuri was when the gang finally reached to the bunker and as they were about to find out that there's a brick wall blocking their way, yuri started smirking, and i noticed that, so i was like, "why the fuck you smiling bro?"
- and then the dude turned out to be some crazy dude who thought brick wall's a good thing because it's protecting them from whatever's going on outside. i hated the dude ngl.
- and the fact that he even killed the programmer of the security brick wall is crazy.
final thoughts:
uhhh like i said, i don't hate it. there are some stuff in the movie that i feel like are missing, especially the characters. but idk. but i rly do like the story and the main couple. it rly shows that during their roughest time in their relationship, the brick wall just shows up out of nowhere, not having time to breathe or anything. but i rlly am glad that they stayed together at the end because tim rlly did want to quit his job but didn't want to for some reason (i forgot why). also, idk why but i'm getting the feeling that this is reminding me of the quarantine during covid. because we have stay inside all of the time and when they finally get out, it was like deserted with all of these bricked up buildings around them.
overall i like it: 6.5/10 it's alright.
